Kenya
The country most people picture when they picture a safari, and the one we know best.

Why go
Kenya packs an unusual amount into short distances. You can be watching elephants under Kilimanjaro on a Tuesday and swimming off the south coast by Thursday, without the internal travel eating the holiday. That compression is why so many first African trips start here, and why a badly sequenced itinerary wastes so much of it.
The country also carries an unusually complete spread of habitats. Open savannah in the Mara, alkaline lakes in the Rift Valley, semi arid bush in Tsavo, montane forest on Mount Kenya and coral reef off the coast, all within a single week if the routing is right.
Our planning is done in Nairobi, which means those routing decisions are made by people who know which road is worth driving and which leg is better flown.
Where to go in Kenya

Maasai Mara
Kenya’s best known reserve and the northern extension of the Serengeti ecosystem. Open grassland, exceptional predator density, and the river crossings that draw travellers between roughly July and October.
Add to a trip

Amboseli
Large, relaxed elephant herds on open pans, with Kilimanjaro filling the skyline on clear mornings. Compact enough to pair with the Mara or the coast without a long transfer.
Add to a trip

Tsavo East and West
One of the largest protected areas in Africa. Red dust, volcanic hills, Mzima Springs and a slower, far less trafficked kind of safari than the Mara offers.
Add to a trip

Nakuru and Naivasha
Rift Valley lakes within easy reach of Nairobi. Flamingos, a fenced rhino sanctuary, boat trips and walking on Crescent Island, often used as the opening leg of a longer route.
Add to a trip

Diani and the south coast
White sand and offshore reef below Mombasa. The usual second half of a safari trip, reached by a short internal flight rather than the long coast road.
Add to a trip

Mount Kenya and Laikipia
Africa’s second highest peak, with trekking routes to Point Lenana that need fitness rather than technical climbing. The Laikipia conservancies below it allow walking and night drives that national parks do not permit.

Peak months are dry, with concentrated game viewing and Mara river crossings. Shoulder months are green, quieter and better value, with some afternoon rain.
